First Grade
Brothers 12 – 17 St. Ives

Well, this was a bit of a shock. A good win by a tough but unfancied side against a Brothers side that wasn’t at their best.
Unbeaten until last weekend, this is now two losses in a row.
Coach Burns had some choice words for the boys after the game.
But this might be the kick in the arse that we need after going unbeaten for 10 in a row.
It shows that Division 2 is a completely different affair from Division 3 (or 4 for that matter.)
You need to be on your game every week.
Vinny and Charlie picked up tries.

OFFICIAL MATCH REPORT:
Last Saturday saw Brothers suffer its second loss for the season in an uncharacteristic display against an enthusiastic St Ives side. St Ives certainly came to Roseville prepared for the clash and dominated play for most of the game. Brothers mistake rate was high and this lack of discipline in turn lead to a heavy penalty count against us. With a lack of possession, Brothers were forced to defend for the lions share of the match which they did well and with a couple of tries against the run of play had the chance to win the game but unfortunately for us, St Ives hung in there and were able to score again late in the game and convert to get the win. Overall a disappointing result which was felt by all.

Charlie got 2 points from the Ref for being a bloody nice bloke.
Coach Burns didn’t give out points, and couldn’t be contacted for an interview after the game.
Rumours about the Queensland Reds vacancy are premature and inaccurate.

Second Grade
Brothers 36 – 19 St. Ives

Good win from the seconds boys. It’s been a bit of an up and down season but when we get our first 15 on the pitch, we can be very hard to beat.
Matty Cullen stepped up his performance a notch this week and had a massive game in the centres.
Stu and Dunc Raines looked extremely dangerous as always.

Colts
Brothers 20 – 23 St. Ives

With the Saints seeking revenge for their round 1 loss and the Brothers Colts keen to maintain their winning record, it was bound to be an exciting clash and both teams didn’t disappoint.

Clearly dominant in set piece, St Ives flexed their muscles and managed a couple of fortuitous tries to go into the half time break with a narrow margin over Brothers 13-15.

Brothers tweaked their strategy at half time and were on their way back, with only minutes to go and once again down 20-23, Brothers were awarded their last crack at the try line well into energy territory, only to be denied the opportunity due to a prolonged ‘knee’ injury to an opposition player that the referee failed to clean up quickly enough calling full time with Brothers players and supporters left stunned.

Good performance from the boys though, building towards a solid season overall. A few more wins required to get into finals contention late on.

Third Grade
Brothers 46 – 7 St. Ives

Fantastic performance from the 3s.
This is a squad that has looked strong all year, but just hasn’t clicked and hasn’t gone on to win games.
Inconsistent personnel due to call ups and injury hasn’t helped either.
But this was an imposing win, with excellent work from the Fijian boys, putting big JW into holes and Tim H picking great lines to cut through the Ives defense.
Great to see a good win on the board also good to see some selection headaches for the coaches.
Tries to Tim, BIG JON WHITE, Cookie, Dave T, Chris Temple two to Matt P and one more that I cannot remember.

Fourth Grade
Brothers 17 – 0 St. Ives

Another squad that has been unsettled this year, but are now finding their feet. Typical of Brothers lower grade sides, they find strength in adversity.
With a double header weekend looming, the boys could have been forgiven for going easy and rolling over.
Instead, they decided to hit hard, keep discipline and roll over a competitive Ive side.
Great to see Shaunie back after a good long spell on the sidelines.
Also awesome to see the fastest and slowest father son combination in world rugby combine again in Elvis and Lucas.
Also, interesting to see Elvis get a yellow card.
I didn’t see it but it must have been a hugely controversial decision to send off a man with such an impeccable disciplinary record.

Tries to Seanie B, still going string after 300+ games. Reliable popped up with one. And Nick scored a meat pie too.
