Mid Term (Self) Examination

As we near the midpoint of the season, it may be timely to take a look at our progress as a club, both on and off the field. While there have been some encouraging results, we’re still not performing anywhere near where we’d like to be.

The dictionary describes a club as: a group of persons organised for a social, literary, athletic, political, or other purpose

My reasons for quoting this will become clearer later.

I received an email late last week from a very frustrated coach after only 23 players from the entire club turned out for Thursday night training. In summary here were his main points.

  • We have coaches for all grades
  • We provide facilities for training when there is wet weather
  • We provide off season training free of charge and encourage partners to come along
  • We provide numerous social gatherings in and out of rugby season
  • We provide Trainee physios at every game
  • We provide free strapping tape at games and training.
  • More often than not, we provide someone to strap players at training
  • We provide a massage therapist at home games
  • We now provide great communication links informing all members of what is going on
  • We provide free refreshments on bus trips
  • We often provide free refreshments at social occasions
  • The Orchard put $300 on the bar and other members an additional $400 at a recent social event
  • We provide and end of season ball and presentation night
  • I am sure we provide more than the above in fact, I am positive we go above and beyond the normal when it comes to looking after our members.

    I’ve discussed this with the other coaches and members of the committee, and they also express the same sentiments. For the club to be successful, both on and off the field, the players need to do their part. This includes;

  • Turning up to training
  • Ringing your coach if you can’t make training or are unable to play
  • Making yourself available to play on Saturdays
  • Paying your subs on time
  • While we understand that there are from time to time reasons players can’t make training, or can’t play on a Saturday, some of the excuses the coaches are hearing are wearing a bit thin. The coaches and committee feel they are playing their part in providing an environment, both on the field, and socially for the club to thrive, the major thing missing seems to be player commitment. We have an opportunity to turn this around in the second half of the season, but it will take you, the players to make this happen. We’ve recently added a Player Expectations page to the website, this outlines what the club expects of us all, please make yourself familiar with these expectations.

At the end of the day, we all put our name forward either to play, coach or serve the club, so we all have responsibility to deliver.

    Tomorrow Against Hawkesbury Valley

This is where we are playing tomorrow.

Please note that this is now an away game and NOT a home game as originally planned. It takes around an hour and a half to get there from the city so please give yourself plenty of time to get out there.

Please contact your coach or club captain for any details.

    Bro News

The latest edition of Bro News is published. Stay up to date with happenings around Brothers HQ and find out what a certain bloke from “Up North” does in his spare time.

    Last weekend and this weekend

Last weekend away to Petersham was quite literally a MASSIVE WASHOUT.

However, the good folk at Brothers HQ organised an impromptu Hawaiian themed day on the sauce which was well attended..

The fact that so many players owned so many pretty horrendous shirts really speaks volumes about the club in general.

This weekend we are up against Hawkesbury Valley at home if the council deems the pitch playable, so stay close to your mobiles and computers for SMS and email updates.

    Veterans and Sponsors Day

One more thing, Veterans and Sponsors Day is the next big social event.

It is on the 19th June after the UWSH game….

It will be good to see all our old boys back again.

    Petersham Game Cancelled

    Hi all,

Due to ground and safety conditions, unfortunately our game today has been cancelled and will be rescheduled on a wet-weather weekend.

However! Don’t think you’re getting out of it that easily — Scotty and Burnsy have requested all players to be at the Orchard, Chatswood at 2PM. The theme is Hawaiian.

    – FINES APPLY FOR NON-ATTENDANCE AND NON-CONFORMING DRESS –

(Seriously, it’ll be a laugh so come on down)

Please pass this information on to all your player and member contacts.

    Kind Regards,

    The Brothers Committee.
