First Grade

Brothers 52 – Oatley 28

Following our hard fought win against Oatley only 3 days earlier ( night game), Brothers secured a guaranteed top 2 spot in the competition by rolling Oatley in fine style yesterday. Oatley started well with their forwards putting it to Brothers and leading to an early try putting us 7 points down. Our forwards soon gained the ascendancy and through good field position lead by some deep kicks by Blackie turned Oatley around and Will Hannam soon squared the scoreboard. From this point it was all Brothers for the remainder of the half , dominating possession through good line out work and controlled raids by the forwards. Brothers came into half time with a lead of 31-7 having racked up 5 tries, including a double on the day to Bailles, with a nice knee to his back later forcing him to an early shower.

Second stanza started much like we ended the first. Brothers continued to push Oatley deep into their half ,forcing them to defend which lead to a couple more meat pies, but with the toll of two heavy games in one week , soon came the injuries. Once again we had to rely heavily on second grade to help out which they did in spades as Tom basically ran out of substitute cards. Oatley scored a couple of tries mid half but Brothers were never in danger of the losing. A very good performance all round by both Forwards and Backs lead well by Vinnie closed out a tough round and with a break next weekend, this will give our boys time to heal niggling injuries as they lead into the business end of the season.
