Club Update

It has been a whilst since our last communication, and with the measures in place being effective at controlling the virus, there been much work behind the scenes getting things in place to see if sports can commence again quickly.

Whilst the Prime Minister has announced a staged return to normality by the end of July we expect the current restrictions in NSW will remain for some time and the return my take slightly longer, especially for contact sports.

The 2020 Season
NSW Suburban anticipates a return to play by the 18th of July with contact training returning from the 2nd of July. Prior to that, we expect to be able to train in groups from early to mid-June with physical distancing and hygiene measures in place.

For the 2020 season, Subbies is being very flexible and prepared to work with clubs to ensure everyone can play rugby if they wish to. The following has been proposed;

◼ Season Starts on 18 July
◼ Play half a season of 7 rds
◼ One day of Finals
◼ No breaks
◼ Finish as scheduled on 5 Sep
◼ Still aim for Div 4 to have 8 clubs
◼ Participation on an invitational basis
◼ Assuming some clubs cannot be, or may not want to be, involved
◼ Assessment and re-grading of some clubs possible
◼ Option to drop the lowest grade

These dates and time-frames are subject to change and are subject to rules and regulations around hygiene and gathering.

We’re still encouraging our players to maintain their fitness and are posting workouts in the player’s group for them to do in preparation for when the season restarts.

Brothers In The City
Unfortunately, with the uncertainty around function centres being able to operate, we’ve had to postpone our annual Brothers In The City lunch. We’re looking into future dates but, as with everything, are waiting for restrictions to be lifted so we can proceed with confidence.

The postponement of the season will understandably impact us financially and, if you’re able to, we encourage you to get your Blue & Gold Membership, or make a donation, and plan on getting to the games and the functions to support the club financially once the season gets underway.
