Colts v KOBs Away
April 11, 2013Brothers Chronicles, Anzac Day Tribute, April 2013
April 16, 2013Third Grade
Brothers 7 – 19 Kings Old Boys
This was pretty hard to watch for a neutral but even worse for the many grizzled front row veterans in attendence.
Scrum after scrum after scrum in the second half took all the energy and momentum out of a physically larger Brothers pack, and stopped any continuity.
Kings scored a couple of good tries in the first half from their fast and skillful back line and got an intercept try in the second half,
Dave Wightley got an intercept try for Brothers to make a match of it, but a lack of match sharpness coupled with some poor handling in excellent conditions meant we never got any patterns going.
Put that down in the one that got away bucket.
Points:
Dave w 5 – 1 * try.
Matt G 1 * conversion.
Player points:
3: Anthony Micali – first ever game of union, monstered the scrum. We need to give him more ball in the loose however, and stop dropping the bloody ball.
2: Toumas – Played @ 1,2,3,4 and 5 and smashed it every time. Turning into a really excellent scrummager.
1: Matt G – Played in about 10 positions as well, got go forward momentum and lead form the front.
Fourth Grade
Brothers 16 – 10 Kings Old Boys
After a poor start where we gave away possession and struggled to piece together any real patterns, Brothers made an excellent comeback in the second half.
It all started with a game and try saving tackle from rocky five metres out from our own line, where he smashed the KOBs winger out of the field of play.
After that super coach Moose pulled a masterstroke and put Burnsie and Andrew Mac onto the field, and the injection of quality in the midfield lit up the game.
The KOBs defence couldn’t handle the direct running of Tom Burns, or the elusive pace of new signing MacDonald.
MacDonald scored a decisive try in the second half and that together with a long range penalty from Tom Burns sealed an excellent win in our first outing of 2013.
Lots more work to do, but a good start.
Points:
Burns 6 – 2 * penalty.
O’Riordan 5 – 1 * penalty, 1 * conversion.
MacDonald 5 – 1 * try.
Player points:
3: Toumas – Gave 110% as always, massively bolstered the scrum, anchored it.
2: Andy Mac – Elusive running, great lines, good passing, guaranteed not to play much more 4th grade!
1: Niall – Mouthy, energetic, massive head.
