Season 2026 – February Update
07/03/2026Seniors
We have revived the stand-alone seniors for the first time in a few years. The team will play in Division 4 and consists of around 40 per cent graduated Colts, 40 per cent returnees from the JV with Wakehurst and former players returning now we’re stand-alone, and 20 per cent new recruits. So a good mix of old and new faces, and older and younger players. Kick-off at 3.15 Saturdays.
Colts
Most of our Colts aged out last year (40 per cent joined seniors, 40 per cent stopped playing and 20 per cent are still Colts and playing), so we had to recruit essentially a new team. They are all from our uni recruiting or from SPX Class of 2025, or one place removed. We are skinny on numbers, so Subbies have us placed us in Division 4 on paper, and we will either play as Colts or as a Colts-based Halligan’s team depending on numbers that week. A bit complicated, but it will work – the more Colts we can continue to on-board, the fewer times we’ll need to go down the Halligan’s route.
Women’s
Subbies Women’s is ten-a-side, which can be a big ask. We lost half our team from last year and replaced them with new recruits, so we have grown a little, but not enough to sustain a ten-a-side team. So Subbies have allowed us to start a Women’s Halligans competition where we will play sevens as often as possible, particularly at home. It’s also a gentle introduction to rugby, so if anyone has anybody who wants to play but has little experience (or a lot) send them our way.
Training
Training under our new rugby director, Leo Bosch, has been outstanding, and attendance has been consistently good. We now want to make it consistently great. The season is about to commence so if you’re looking to improve your rugby on a Wednesday night, come to Roseville Chase Oval on a Wednesday night from 7 pm.
Basketball
The mixed basketball team continues to play at North Sydney on Tuesday nights. Anyone keen to play, drop us a line at https://www.brothersrugby.com.au/play-rugby-in-sydney/basketball/
Finance
I’m pleased to announce that we have been awarded our third grant in two years, this time from the state government’s community sports program. We have received $6,500 for a range of training equipment that should make our training even better than it currently is.
We prioritise the players when spending our money, so all the money we raise goes to assist the club and the players. I would encourage those of you who wish to support the club in a small but meaningful way to take out our non-playing ‘Blue and Gold’ membership for $50 (https://www.brothersrugby.com.au/membership/). Those of you who took it out last year will receive a reminder notice for Season 2026.
For those who want to make a more substantial donation (which is tax deductible), then you can do so via the Australian Sports Foundation, which also comes back to the club.
Back To Brothers (B2B) Day
Pencil in the 9 May as B2B Day at Roseville Chase with a feast of rugby, food, and music. More details to follow, but put it in your diary now.
Brothers in the City (BITC)
Another one for the diary – 14 August. Speakers TBA, but it is a great day on the harbour and a good way of catching up with friends and making new ones.
Volunteers
We need them every week. If you can even help out one Saturday at one home game throughout the year, we would appreciate it. A great way of staying in touch with the club and the rugby community. Anyone who can help, drop me a line at president@brothersrugby.com.au
WISHING EVERYONE A HAPPY AND HOLY EASTER AND SEE YOU ALL ON THE SIDELINES DURING THE YEAR !
