BROTHERS RUGBY UPDATE – September 2026

RUGBY 2027

Preparations are already underway for Season 2027, which will be the club’s 80th anniversary. We intend to field a Women’s Tens, U/21 Colts and a Seniors team. In order to do this, we are keen to hear from anyone who is keen to coach or manage a team, or knows of someone who is. We also need everyone to act as a recruiter for us and recommend the club to anyone you come in contact with.

If there are some individuals or groups of people who wish to organise a team for an occasional social game with mates, we are happy to sponsor you to play in the Halligan’s Cup for Brothers Rugby whenever you are available. We would provide the gear, venue and officials, but you would need to be self-organising outside of this.

We also regularly have people who are open to play rugby if we can assist with any employment, so if anyone has a contact who might need rugby-playing people for labouring, hospitality or other related jobs, please let us know. For all responses or queries regarding any of the above, please send an email to president@brothersrugby.com.au

BASKETBALL 2026

The spring mixed basketball season is well underway under the leadership of Bernadette Brannan on Tuesday nights at the North Sydney Basketball Centre at Crows Nest. Bernadette is always looking for new players of any standard, so get in contact with her at play@brothersrugby.com.au

CRICKET 2026/27

Yes, it has been a few decades since we last had a team, but Brothers cricket is coming back – and we’re looking for new players. We are trialling a new, more social format, playing in the Inner West Harbour/NSW Churches Cricket Association Division E with our home ground at North Ryde.

The games will be a combination of T20 and two-day games with playing times limited to 1-4 pm on Saturdays. So a great way of getting back into it without taking up your whole weekend. We obviously need as many players as possible so people can sit out weeks when they’re not available. The only age restriction is to be over 15, and we will take people with no or great experience. It’s a good way of getting some father/son, brother/brother, cousin/cousin bonding in before Christmas.

The season starts on 17 October, breaks over Christmas/New Year and should finish by the end of February. Like the basketball, this initiative is part of the club’s plan to grow by offering different pathways to re-form and strengthen our identity as a community of social sportspeople.

Those interested, please drop us a line ASAP at play@brothersrugby.com.au so we can get you registered and get the team organised in time for the first game!

PRESENTATION NIGHT

It was a tough season but there is always a reason to finish it off with presentations to acknowledge those that hung tough and stayed loyal when things were hard. Held
at our sponsor, the Chatswood Hotel, we also welcomed the basketball crew for the first time. It made for a good collegiate atmosphere, no doubt helped by money over
the bar and food as well.

Congratulations to all our award recipients.

AGM 2026

You would have received a notice about the AGM to be held on Sunday 18th October. I encourage anyone with interest in the future of the club to attend. I strongly encourage people to put their hands up to serve on the Committee. A strong and vibrant club needs a strong and vibrant committee. So even if your playing days are over, you can still contribute to the club by becoming a committee member and helping the club continue to thrive. We are always looking for new people.
