Back To Brothers 2026
07/05/2026BROTHERS IN THE CITY
This is our major fundraiser for the year, so let’s get everybody behind it. We have secured ex-Wallaby hard man Sam Scott-Young as the guest speaker, which is great news. Now is the time to book individual seat(s) or to gather a group and secure a table of ten. We also encourage people to bring their partners or women who may be interested in being exposed to community rugby.
RUGBY
We are now in the second half of the season and continue to battle away. We played our Colts and Women as Halligan’s teams this year as we were short on numbers and knew with injuries and the impending uni break that we couldn’t sustain it the whole season. Particularly given the women’s team is nearly half international students.
So for the rest of the season we will combine the Colts and Seniors and the women will cease for the season. It also allows us to have a bench for the seniors which has been part of the issue for the season to date. The good news is that the Colts have stepped up to the plate and played very well in the seniors, so we’re blooding a deal of new talent who can hopefully go back to playing in a larger Colts group next year.
BASKETBALL
The mixed basketball team finished a very creditable sixth in their Tuesday evening competition. Congrats to Bernadette Brannan and the guys ‘n girls for getting the team back up and running after a long hiatus. A new competition commences in August until December so anyone looking for some social basketball over spring and summer contact us via the club website.
SEASON 2027
To borrow some business language, the last three years have been focused on expansion, building or rebuilding Colts, Seniors and Women. We have done extraordinarily well in getting all three up and running but we are also paper-thin for all three, particularly in coaches and support staff.
The focus for the next three years is on consolidation. Building on what we have created with recruiting pathways that allow us to sustain three teams. To that end, we welcome expressions of interest from anyone willing to be a coach or manager for the club in 2027 to president@brothersrugby.com.au
We are also on the lookout for sponsors so if anyone would like to become one, or knows of someone who would or could, email me at president@brothersrugby.com.au
Also everyone can support the club in their own individual manner by becoming a non-playing, but paying supporter through a Blue and Gold membership for only $50. Link here: https://www.brothersrugby.com.au/membership/
