Matchday 15 – Match Reports
August 11, 2012Matchday 17 – Review
August 13, 20124th Grade
Brothers 5 – 17 Convicts
This was the big one, the game we absolutely had to win in order to get into the finals and make our mark on the competition.
After a tough run of results in the middle of the season we were building some decent if unspectacular form in the last few weeks.
But this was one step too far. We’ve never beaten Convicts, but have always given an excellent account of ourselves.
This was another one of those days. We didn’t get much of the ball, but what we did get, we did well with it, see BOKOs try in the corner after a period of sustained forward dominated pressure.
But this Convicts side is well drilled, and play together regularly.
They run hard, and are tough to drag down.
They’ll be a tough team to beat in the finals.
Next up Mac Uni to finish off the season, let’s get a result we can be proud of and finish off a team that sparkled with promise before fading away towards the end.
Try:
BOKO, nice little scramble into the corner.
Player points:
3: Matty G – Captained the side, led by example, and stopped their maul in its tracks a number of times. Excellent display.
2: Tom C – Another good game from Tom, ran some great lines, and excellent under the high ball.
1: Leon – Did really well with a limited supply of possession. Defended stoutly.
3rd Grade
Brothers 0 – 54 St George
There’s not much you can do when you have 14 guys turn around to play game 2 after a physical battle in 4th Grade.
Heggers was the only fresh man, and played like two men, tackled like three men, and shouted and roared like four… but it was a tough ask against a side in finals contention.
Fair play to St George, they played hard and physical and worked to their strengths.
Credit has to go to Isaac as well, who picked by far the worst game of the season to make his bow at this level, and acquitted himself excellently. Cheers mate!
Player points:
3: Leon – Smashed the tackles, did more than most to keep out the tide of red and white.
2: Matt Davis – Up against some massive runners in midfield, acquitted himself well. Tackled like a demon.
1: Heggers – Never gave up. Not for one second.
2nd Grade
Brothers 31 – 5 St George
There was one good result this weekend in that second grade built a bit of momentum with a solid win over St George.
4 tries from Jack was a pretty good place to start, and the whole performance this week was a lot more solid than the previous week.
There is still quite a bit of fluidity about the lineup with changes in and out every week, but Brute and Parso have been doing a great job trying to keep the patterns going and building up understanding between all the players.
Tries:
Jack * 4 YEAH BABY!
Jone * 1
Player points:
3: Jack – Obviously. Smashed it up!
2: Johnny Gibbs – Like a fine wine, gets better with age…. and like a cheese, smellier.
1: Tyler – Had a great game, linked up well with Stu, enjoyed his rugby this weeked!
1st Grade
Brothers 26 – 31 St George
Well, it was bound to happen at some stage.
Some might say it was the loss we needed to have while some others might say we failed to deal with their number ten and gave him time and space to pick his passes and get his runners hitting some nice straight lines.
Some might say that it’s impossible to go a season undefeated while some others might say that the best team won on the day.
Some might say man for man both teams were fairly evenly matched, but some others might say that any well drilled physical side, that plays good and super tough rugby, can get up over another side that does the same.
Well done to St George, the unbeaten run is over, now what’s needed is a win against Mac Uni to put us back on the straight and narrow.
Ratu unfortunately picked up a nasty Achilles injury, but hopefully he’ll be back on his feet in the next day or two. Get well soon big fella.
Tries:
The Bald Assassin
Jone
Vinny
blacky
Player Points:
3: Buckets – Did his best to stem the supply from 10. Massive defence at times.
2: Si – Great defensive work, scored a solid try.
1: Tazer – Points twice in two weeks. He’s a machine.
