Matchday 3 – Match Reports
May 1, 2013Veteran’s Day
May 7, 2013Brothers 48 – UNSW 14
Brothers continued their good form this week scoring 8 tries to 2 against Uni who were equal second on the ladder coming into the round. Brothers lost the toss and were forced to face a very strong southerly breeze in the first half. They started the game strong which had been lacking in their earlier games. A very strong performance by the forwards saw Brothers set the tone for the day dominating possession and despite the strong wind against them scoring four tries in the first half. With the breeze at their backs in the second half , Brothers continued to pressure Uni in the forwards and again with the lion share of possession, the tries continued to come. Hugh Baillie came into the side and scored a double as did Joel. Tries as well to Matty Mc, Benny,Vinnie and John (Jone).

Another two newcomers this week in Aaron Aston and Kyle Wigham welcome boys, shame we couldn’t repeat the performance of last week; contain the opposition and create opportunities to welcome you along with a victory. UNSW are well drilled team that has been competitive in this division with the same squad, only losing two players from their squad through age this year. Our preparation was again good this week but some positional changes had disrupted the team a bit. And finally in the case of what was against us; the ref had some very interesting observations; with Nathan Lee being in an offside position from 5 metres behind Artie’s kick, A scrum that becomes a ruck and the use of shoulders in tackles. There were some positives to take from the game, we did control sections of the game and our forwards were able to string together phases. There centre running (on occasion untouched) through to score 3 tries needs to address our upfront and cover defence. Lesser teams would have let this scoreline blowout and I dare say we will see a few lopsided scrorelines come out of Daceyville this year.
Heads up boys all that is for it is a good training run on Tuesday night and be up at Roseville Chase early (no later than 11:45, earlier if you need strapping) and ready to take on Lindfield in the local derby. They currently rest under us on the ladder, let’s keep it that way!
