May 17, 2016Attention all supporters and friends of the St Ives v Brothers Rugby Clubs.
On the 21 May, at Hassall Park, Mona Vale Rd St Ives; the St Ives and Brothers Rugby Clubs will be joining up in the competition scheduled round, to play for the inuagural Winston Shield to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity’s Fiji emergency appeal.
Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston – one of the largest category-five storms to hit the region – made landfall on the main island Viti Levu on Saturday, packing wind gusts of up to 325km per hour.
Both Clubs have players and coaches with families in Fiji who have been seriously affected by the storm.
“The Winston Shield is to be played between St Ives Rugby Club and Brothers Rugby Club whenever they meet. The game is to be in honour of those who died and those who were left destitute after cyclone Winston struck Viti Levu on 20 February 2016.”
