“A Gallant Effort”
It was a pretty hard start to the day when the 3s & 4s squad failed to turn up on time and we were left well short of players and reserves. Thankfully 3 new players Brad Wasser, Jack Willis & Dylan Kilduff showed up and we were able to start the game with 13 players.
Unfortunately, due to a lack of props, we had to play the game with uncontested scrums and, because of this, never got more than 14 on the field.
Despite being short on numbers the guys put in a great effort defensively and we showed great go forward thanks to our piggies and some great hit ups in the back line from Joe Vuli, Brad Wasser and Dylan Kilduff. Joe was always present in defense and attack and did a great job of disrupting the Iggies play. Mark Toma filled in at Fly-Half and did an excellent job of distributing the ball and in play kicking.
Matt McIntyre was inspirational in his last game for Brothers before moving over to NZ. Matt worked tirelessly around the rucks and in cover defense. His great pick-and-go work was rewarded in the first half with a bustling try, fighting 3 defenders to get over the line and put the ball down. Top effort Matt.
Iggies managed to put two tries on us in the first half which saw us sitting at 5-12 at the break.
Iggies put another try on the board early in the first half before we regrouped with a great scrum and follow up forward work to put the new boy Brad Wasser over for a try. Unfortunately in the process of getting the try scored Matt McIntyre injured his knee and had to be assisted from the field.
Even though we were down 17-10 we were looking pretty good and after scoring the try started to fire up. Unfortunately our discipline, and some of the referee’s interpretations, started to hurt us as we gave away far too many penalties. It seemed like the Iggies kicker left his lucky boots at home this day as he missed a few, but a penalty 5 meters out from our own line, and 7 minutes from full-time, resulted in a try for them and put the contest just about out of reach.
The boys didn’t stop trying till the end and with only 14 on the field it certainly was a gallant effort.
We showed that we can be competitive but really need to get all 3s & 4s players turning up to warm up from 10am on game day if we are going to have playing numbers plus reserves. Only then are we going to start stringing some wins together.
A bye next week and then Mosman away. Let’s get ’em.
See you at the game.

Milestones
No milestones this week but Mick Bird did pay 4s and 3s to end the day on 395.
Not many to go now to join that exclusive 400 club.
Player Points
Not an easy day for picking points and special mention goes to our new players Brad Wasser, Jack Willis & Dylan Kilduff. All had great games and will be an asset to the club. Welcome to Brothers.
