Notice of 2024 AGM
September 24, 2024IT’S AGM TIME !!!
It is that time of the year – Brothers Rugby Annual General Meeting to be held upstairs at the Willoughby Hotel at 2 pm on Sunday 20 October. Come, enjoy a free beer, find out how the club is, what we’re doing for next year, and throw in your own two cents’ worth.
Most importantly, consider putting your hand up to help. All committee positions are open for nominations so if you feel you can or want to make a difference then don’t be shy. In particular, Karl is stepping down as vice president this year after years of valuable service to the club. He assures us that he will still play for a bit longer.
So we need a new vice president. I’m happy to stay as president for a few years yet so don’t fear that putting yourself forward as VP means you’ll be left holding the baby, so to speak. We need the VP to input new ideas into the club, leverage their contacts for the benefit of the club and to cover for the president when he’s away. Not too onerous. So, nominate today !
Also, the club runs on volunteers and we need people to donate their time if they are able. There are so many jobs that can be filled, depending on your available time, expertise and level of commitment. These include:
- Season commitment: Coaches, managers (the club will pay for any courses – the basic level is Smart Rugby and can be done on-line. Level 1 is on-line and requires one Saturday in-person)
- When time allows but requires qualification: (AR – touch judge, ground manager). We qualified Tim O’Grady and Mick Walker as AR last year and I did it the year before. The course is on-line, takes about 3 hours in total and is pretty good. Ground manager is shorter. Even if you can only help out at one or two games during the season it is still a great help and you get a bird’s eye view of the game at the same time.
- When time allows but no qualification needed: Canteen, BBQ, ground setup/pull down. It hasn’t changed, every club needs them. Again, even if only for one Saturday or a Wednesday night training (we run a free BBQ after training) then it relieves the burden on the committee.
So if you are able to volunteer then let us know prior to the AGM so we can get an idea of areas we may need to focus on. Send me an email at president@brothersrugby.com.au or indicate your volunteer status under the ‘Join Brothers’ drop down menu at brothersrugby.com.au
CHRISTMAS DRINKS
You’ll get reminders but put Friday 13 December 2024 in your diary for the Brothers Rugby Christmas drinks upstairs at the Willoughby Hotel. From 6 pm – a chance to catch up before the holidays and the deal is sweetened by some money over the bar.
RECRUITMENT
Keep recruiting now and over the holidays. Most of our Colts are back for Season 2025, we already have half a Women’s team and more than half a Seniors so let’s get out there and try to ensure that we can have Women’s, Colts and Seniors all running around Roseville Chase Oval in the blue and gold on Saturdays at Roseville Chase Oval.
We’ll keep you updated in the next email about some of our recruiting initiatives but we need everyone to be a club recruiter. We’ll start pre-season at the end of January/start February and perhaps have a few other sessions before the new year, so let’s get word out there about Brothers in Season 2025.
