Round 2 – 3rd Grade
April 22, 2010This weekend…
April 22, 2010Brothers: 10
Blue Mountains: 12
After the first weeks disappointment the boys bounced back in great style. With injuries and a few players missing due to social occasions it was shaping up as a tough day at the office. We had a few debutants this week with Jacob playing number 8 and Tasker making his first grade debut at 6.
The forwards where put on notice that the previous week’s effort was unacceptable and they responded in great style with a dominant performance.
Mts skipped away to a 12 nil lead early in the second half on the back of some basic errors and poor defending. With the forwards leading the way we started to claw our way back into the game. The backs lacked sharpness and timing (have not trained together for 4 weeks due to some work commitments) and simple mistakes cost us at crucial times.
12-nil at half time and the boys came out at half time and continued to claw their way back into the game when Daz went over with 10 mins to go it was 10-12 with a kick to come. Unfortunately Daz missed the kick that a drunk dead donkey could have thrown over. To mountains credit they rallied and played the rest of the game in our 20m, and hung on for a victory.
Special mentions on the day to Jacob (3 points) and players player, Brad (2 points), Tasker (1 point) — if you had not noticed, no points for the backs. Also special mention to Scotty who had the excuse of playing third grade, however he was still drug and alcohol tested after the game to find a reason for his inability to throw a rugby ball in a straight line.
Overall a much better game than the first week but we still have a long way to go.
