Season 2025 – March update
March 17, 2025RUGBY
The season has started (sort of) since the last update. Having Easter followed by Anzac Day has made the start a bit awkward to program, but there is clear air after Anzac Day.
The Seniors kicked off the season with a great win against Macquarie Uni 69-5. In fairness, they were short a few, and we had to lend them some, but it was still good to get the first W on the board for the season. We’re still looking for players so if you’d like to get in on the action, our next game is on 26th April against Chatswood at Beauchamp Park, kick off 3:15pm. Be sure to get along and have a run or support the boys.
Colts had their first game against Balmain on 12 April at Roseville and went down 43-7. We had a few players unavailable and couldn’t get our hands on the ball for the first 20 minutes, and ended up expending a lot of energy in tackling. When we did eventually get some ball, we had some good structure and made good ground. And congratulations to Mark Joseph, our rugby league convert from Punchbowl, who scored his first try for the club (and given the rate at which he is learning the game, the first of many).
We postponed our games against Macquarie University on 26 April because we both had so many players away on uni break. The (re) start of the season will now be on 3 May at Roseville Chase. We still don’t have a draw for the Women’s competition (?!?), but we’ll let you know as soon as we do.
BACK TO BROTHERS – 17 MAY !!!!!!!
Lock in the date. We will have Brothers Women, Colts, and Brothers/Wakehurst Seniors playing that day, and we’re hoping for a Halligan’s Cup match as well, so plenty of rugby to watch. If you’re keen to play the Halligan’s game with some mates, then send your names ASAP to president@brothersrugby.com.au
And that’s not all. We’ve also got a live Rhythm ‘n Blues band courtesy of ex-CBOB Phil Hogan, a paella stand courtesy of ex-CBOB Gil Gaspar, more food, raffles aplenty and drinks at the clubhouse with the band playing. So make a day of it and support the club!
VOLUNTEERS
I say this every letter and I am continually underwhelmed with the responses. Most of the committee are either playing in Seniors, or coaching/managing the Colts, and Women’s teams. So everybody already has a job on Saturday, and on some Saturdays, we may have teams playing at three different locations, so our ability to cover Roseville Chase can be problematic at times.
Being a volunteer doesn’t mean committing to every Saturday. Even if you can only do one Saturday, just let us know, as every little bit helps us greatly.
To help us out send an email to president@brothersrugby.com.au and you can even nominate the day(s) you are available.
SPONSORS
We’re still looking for them, particularly to sponsor our education scholarships at ACU, Notre Dame and Campion College. So anyone who is interested or knows of someone, a group of people, or a business that is keen to sponsor community sport, let me know at president@brothersrugby.com.au
BLUE AND GOLD MEMBERSHIP
I know many of you are interstate or outside of Sydney, so you can’t do any volunteer work. But there’s still a way you can help the club.
Taking out a $50 non-playing blue and gold membership helps us greatly and is easy to do.
