Season 2025 – Easter Update

Notice of 2025 AGM

We’re very close to halfway through the season already and have caught up all but one of our rained-out games. It is fair to say that the Colts have tried very hard and played well, but the lack of a bench has told against us. Twice we led Macquarie Uni at half time only to lose as we ended up with fewer then 15 players thanks to some injuries. Against Wakehurst, we got to 17-14 with 15 minutes to play, but were down to 13 players by the end. By contrast, when we got 20 players to a game, we beat Kings handsomely. So there is talent in the tea,m and we’ve had 32 players pull on the jersey this season, but getting everyone there and fit is challenging.
The girls have been playing seven-a-side in three, ten-minute thirds which as you would appreciate is pretty tiring when you have no reserves! The scores blow out near the end due to exhaustion on our part and a bench on the opposition’s part. But the girls have learnt a lot, are unfailingly positive and loving the rugby experience.
We rely on university students for our team, so uni break is also very challenging for us as players head home to the country or interstate.
All in all though, having a Colts and a Women’s team has been great as foundations on which to rebuild the club. Skills training is now quite integrated, and we’ve had a couple of social functions with some more on the way, so the groups are starting to form more of a club (as opposed to team) identity.
Our Seniors joint venture team with Wakehurst are having a cracking season currently leading the Division 4 Jefferey Cup on 31 points, 8 points clear of the nearest contender. So far, the team has only had one loss from 7 games, losing at the death 22-19 to Kings. The boys took their revenge last week, winning a hard fought rematch 22-12. Other matches have seen the team win in fine style with an impressive For (329) and against (89) differeantial (240). Whilst our senior numbers might be small we’re making a big contribution to the success of the team and an important part of our club’s rebuilding efforts. We encourage everyone to get around the boys and get down to cheer them on after watching the Ladies and Colts play. They’ll really appreciate the support.
BACK TO BROTHERS MARK II (B2B)
Our rained-out B2B day is now rescheduled to 9 August at Roseville Chase Oval – our last home game and last game of the season for the Women. We’ll have a Halligan’s game followed by the Women, the Colts and finishing with us hosting a St Ives v Kings Seniors game. So put it in the diary and organise some of your mates for some Halligan’s action followed by some food and beer.
BROTHERS IN THE CITY
Our major fundraiser for the year – start organising some friends (and even a whole table) to listen to our guest speaker, former Wallaby Garrick Morgan, all the way from Queensland, with a close familial link with the club.

SPONSORS
We’re still looking for them, particularly to sponsor our education scholarships at ACU, Notre Dame and Campion College. So anyone who is interested or knows of someone, a group of people or a business who is keen to sponsor community sport, let me know at president@brothersrugby.com.au
EOFY TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATIONS
If you want to help the club out and need some tax deductions at the same time, now is the perfect time to donate to our Development Fund. Tax deductible donations – as a sponsor, you can even provide your education scholarship money via this means and get a deduction. You can donate to the fund HERE
BLUE AND GOLD MEMBERSHIP
I know many of you are interstate or outside of Sydney, so you can’t do any volunteer work. But there’s still a way you can help the club. Taking out a $50 non-playing blue and gold membership helps us greatly and is easy to do – just click on this link: https://www.brothersrugby.com.au/membership/.
